Dancing with the Stars had their first elimination tonight and it was actually kind of surprising. Not too much, but a little. Shannen Doherty was the first to be kicked off to be a part of the losers club. This doesn't surprise me too much since she was in my bottom picks. No one likes her personality and the 90210 thing still haunts those of us who had to live through the popularity of that show.
What surprised me the most however, was that Pamela Anderson was in the bottom two. I am usually pretty good at calling the eliminations, but this one had me thrown off. I knew that Buzz Aldrin would be safe because he is a national hero and is impossible not to cheer for. At his age he probably shouldn't even be dancing, but the shows producers have figured out that even though these older contestants don't have the ability to compete with the younger ones, the viewers love to see them on the show doing their best and this gains sympathy votes.
Pamela Anderson had some of the better performances of the night so I can't understand why she was in the bottom. Oh, wait a second, this is a wholesome TV show that is watched by millions of viewers that are eager to have something they can enjoy and feel good about watching. I wouldn't label Pamela Anderson as being too wholesome either. Here is the issue. No one will vote for Pam because of her history. Everything after appearing on "Home Improvement" that she has done isn't something that average people would be proud of telling Mom and Dad about. I am hoping that she stays a little longer, because she has a good personality, she isn't afraid to poke fun at herself, and she has shown an amazing ability to get into character in her performances. She deserves to be there, but this is just a popularity contest as was proven in the last season when Donny Osmond won.
Kate Gosselin was the contestant that I thought would be going home for sure. She has one tough personality that is hard for anyone to love. If you have ever watched her show "Kate Plus Eight" then you know why her husband is no longer around. Her dance partner Tony is the nicest partner to have and she almost managed to run him off. Kate has the disadvantage since she is not any sort of performer or athlete, and her personality isn't the most attractive. She doesn't seem to keep pushing herself, instead she just keeps finding excuses to why she is struggling. This translates into horrible performances on the show.
I thought for sure that this would out weigh the unpopular 90210 star, but maybe I am forgetting just how horrid that show really was.
